Akron Urban Walk
For those preferring an urban 1-day hike, consider starting at the Cascade Lofts. Continue walking southwards along the Towpath, possibly stopping to watch the Rubber Ducks play baseball, and then continuing on to the vicinity of Akron’s Spaghetti Warehouse.
Hikers can then reverse course and walk up Exchange Street to the Myers’ School of Art on the campus of the University of Akron (located in Folk Hall). After visiting the Emily Davis Gallery there, head on further east to see the university’s athletic fields and on to a historical marker commemorating the role of Akron in the rubber industry.
Enjoy a walk past other historical markers, which include a memorial to Sojourner Truth’s famous speech on human rights. Hikers are encouraged to head north to the art stores near North Main Street, where lunch at Luigi’s Restaurant is a popular choice. It is then back to Cascade Park near the original starting point.
This trip would be ideal for alumni or for visiting students and their families.
